At least so far - and we haven?t managed to get to lighting this yet - I?m quite pleased with this light-coloured stone fire pit. The large sized composite stone demi-sphere makes quite a nice statement piece. It?s a good size to have on the patio with a set of outdoor furniture, and doesn?t look artificial unless you?re close to it (when there are some nicks and blobs in the surface, the latter in particular giving away that it isn?t made from real stone). The deep red of the lava rocks make a good contrast to the light grey finish of the piece itself.
This is big, but once unpacked not too unwieldy: I was able to manage moving it on my own, though really should have got someone else to help me lift it out of its box as managing to get this balanced and lifted was rather awkward soli.
With the exception of today, it has poured with rain every day since this arrived, and whilst today isn?t raining it?s much too blowy to be able to start the fire. The forecast of the next ten days is looking pretty grim too. So I will have to update this review with a bit more ?meat? regarding its performance once we?ve actually managed to get this running.
I have had the opportunity to test out the included cover. This is OK. It seems reasonably thick and durable, but has a straight sided drum shape without any kind of drawstring, clip, or Velcro fastening to help pull this in tight around the narrower base of the fire pit. It?s quite breezy today, and I ended up putting a weight on top of this as the cover was lifting up and looked as though it could blow away
The fire pit came really well packed, but with a lot of surrounding packaging - mostly a mix of polystyrene, cardboard, and honeycomb card (with some plastic bags too). The whole of the back seat of our people carrier was filled with packaging to take to the recycling centre once this had been unboxed.
